Self-Introduction: Interactive Dialogues & Exercises (Dialoge & Übungen)

Daily conversations and interactive exercises for self-introduction and exchanging questions for A1 & A2 levels

1. First Formal Introduction Dialogue (Formeller Dialog)

In formal situations or when talking to examiners and new people in level A1 exams, we use the pronoun Sie and formal expressions to develop skills in forming German questions:

Person A (Herr Weber):
Guten Tag! Wie heißen Sie?
Good day! What is your name?
Person B (Yahya):
Guten Tag! Ich heiße Yahya Younes. Und wie ist Ihr Name?
Good day! My name is Yahya Younes. And what is your name?
Person A (Herr Weber):
Mein Name ist Thomas Weber. Woher kommen Sie, Herr Younes?
My name is Thomas Weber. Where are you from, Mr. Younes?
Person B (Yahya):
Ich komme aus Ägypten, aber ich wohne jetzt in Kairo. Was sind Sie von Beruf?
I am from Egypt, but I live in Cairo now. What is your profession?
Person A (Herr Weber):
Ich bin Lehrer von Beruf. Schön, Sie kennenzulernen!
I am a teacher by profession. Nice to meet you!

💡 Quick Rule (Grammatik-Tipp)

Note the use of Sie followed by a verb ending in -en in formal questions (e.g., Woher kommen Sie?), while its possessive form is Ihr / Ihre. You can read more in our German question words lesson.

2. Informal Introduction Dialogue (Informeller Dialog)

Between friends, students, and peers of similar age, we use the informal pronoun du for flexible conversations as part of our structured German self-introduction guide:

Person A (Anna):
Hallo! Ich bin Anna. Wie heißt du?
Hello! I am Anna. What is your name?
Person B (Omar):
Hi Anna! Ich heiße Omar. Woher kommst du?
Hi Anna! My name is Omar. Where are you from?
Person A (Anna):
Ich komme aus Deutschland. Und du? Was machst du in deiner Freizeit?
I am from Germany. And you? What do you do in your free time?
Person B (Omar):
Ich komme aus Ägypten. In meiner Freizeit spiele ich gerne Fußball.
